Great Northern Bean Soup

I am a big fan of soup and I love anything with beans. Beans are a great source of fiber and good for the heart. I found a great recipe that I slightly modified for my own taste and you can do the same too.

I added a little bit of celery and used smoked turkey bacon instead of regular bacon to give it a nice smokey taste and I added shredded smoke pork that I got from Costco that I used a day prior to making the soup and thought it would give it a nice taste and it did. Another great additive you can add to it is smoke kielbasa or you can leave just as it is.

Here is my soup simmering in the slow cooker.











Great Northern Bean Soup
Ingredients:
Serves 8 – 10

3 slices thick cut bacon
10 cups-2.2 L chicken stock
3 cans Great Northern beans – 45 oz
1 can petite cut tomatoes – 14 ½ oz
1 large onion
2 fresh carrots
3 garlic cloves
1 sprig fresh rosemary or dry rosemary.
1 tsp pepper

Preparation:

1. Chop onion, mince garlic, dice carrots, dice bacon.
2. Cook bacon until barely done. Drain on paper towel. Add bacon to slow cooker. Drain beans and rinse. Combine with rest of ingredients and add to slow cooker. Stir to mix ingredients.
3. Cook on LOW 8 hours. Remove rosemary sprig. Strip leaves and mince or if you used dried rosemary. Return to soup and serve.


My finished Great Northern Bean Soup. I loved it and it was gone in a couple of days. My husband just loved it.

Cocoa Butter Body Cream

One of my best selling body cream. Made with all natural ingredients and comes in a variety of scents. Our Cocoa Butter body cream includes Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter, which both of these butters are excellent for the skin. Both butters help reduce the appearances of scars, blemishes,and other imperfections in the skin. In addition, we added Vitamin E and C.


It has a very thick consistency so very little on the face is recommended and would be great as a moisturizer.

This cream has a wonderful natural scent of the cocoa butter and is great all on its own without any fragrances added. Once applied, it absorbs very quickly without ANY greasy feeling and you will begin to smell the natural cocoa butter.

Chicken Jambalya

Chicken Jambalaya with Rice



Ingredients:
Serves 4

2 Tbsp canola oil
2 stalks celery
1 small onion
1 small green pepper
1 can petite cut tomatoes – 14.5 oz
1½ cups-35 cl chicken broth
¾ cup-150 g white rice
1 tsp dried thyme
2 cloves garlic
¼ tsp dried red pepper flakes
Cayenne pepper
1 bay leaf
¼ cup fresh parsley
2 whole chicken breasts

Optional:
½ lb shrimp
½ lb smoked sausage

Preparation:

1. Chop celery, onion, and green pepper. Mince garlic. Saute vegetables in oil until soft, but not browned. Add vegetables to slow cooker.

2. Sprinkle uncooked rice over vegetables in slow cooker.

3. Skin, debone and cut chicken breasts ( I used Boneless chicken breast) into bite size pieces. Saute until no longer pink on exterior. Place chicken on top of vegetables and rice in slow cooker.

4. Crush red pepper flakes and add to mixture. Mix chicken broth, tomatoes, coarsely chopped parsley and seasonings. Pour over mixture in slow cooker.

5. Cook on LOW 6 hours or until chicken and rice are done. Adjust seasonings to taste.
6. Optional: Top with cooked smoked sausage and/or cooked shrimp.

I suggest you cook this very slow on low as I got a new crockpot and accidently had the setting on high and I over cooked my rice so it says low cook it on low. :-) I also added diced carrots to my pot as well.

Different Ways to Use Lemons




Lemon is an incredibly versatile ingredient for homemade facial treatments. Here a few recipes for your Kitchen Spa that fresh, simple and smell amazing.

Lemon recipe for dry skin

1 tsp fresh squeezed Lemon juice
1 tsp Olive Oil
1 tbsp Fine Sea Salt


Mix together thoroughly and gently exfoliate in upward circular motion, rinse.

Lemon recipe for oily skin


1 tsp fresh squeezed Lemon juice
1 Egg White
Pinch Cornstarch

Whip egg whites until they form peaks, fold in cornstarch and lemon juice. Apply to face for 20 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

Lemon recipe for congested skin

1 tbsp Fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tbsp Baking Soda

Mix together to create a paste, add more of either ingredient until you reach the desired consistency. Apply to face, leave for 20 minutes, rinse thoroughly.


Lemon for all skin types


1 tbsp honey
2 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp plain yogurt

Mix together to create a paste, add more of either ingredient until you reach the desired consistency. Apply to face, leave for 20 minutes, rinse thoroughly.


Did you know that Lemons are great for....

Getting rid of Ants? Yup Just squirt some lemon juice into holes and cracks where the ants are coming in. Place small pieces of lemon rinds or peels around the house.

Did you know it is great for avocados, apples and guacamole from turning brown.The culprit is oxidation - when a cut avocado is exposed to air, an enzyme called polyphenol oxidase change the structures of phenolic compounds in the flesh of the avocado and thus their color. Since the enzyme doesn't work as well in acidic environment, you can slow down this reaction by sprinkling lemon or lime juice.

Lemons also great for dandruff. Got itchy, scaly dandruff? Apply lemon juice directly to your scalp and massage it in before you hop on the shower. Then rinse away and wash your hair as usual.

Got acne and blackheads? Got blackheads? Dab lemon juice directly on the acne breakout once a day for several days until the condition improves.

Lemons are great for heartburn. Heartburn relief
Drink a glass of water and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice.
