A New Year

It is almost a new year. A new year to start new memories as 2008 will be a past memory. As I look back on the past year, I can say we have been very blessed. A new home, new car, and my husband's new job. It has been a exciting year for us. But many families haven't been so blessed with the loss of their jobs, loss of their homes and the lost of their lives. 2008 had some ups and downs but it sure was a very memorable year. With the gas prices soaring so high that it was unaffordable to most, stock market dipping to its lowest in 2 decades and so many homes went into foreclosures. There were some bright times in 2008 too. This past election. Seeing our countries first Black president get elected was a very historical event. Not only that, but the record amount of people that just came out and voted that day. It didn't matter who you voted for but the fact that so many people did which will make this a very memorable year for me. I have never seen so many lines over the co…

Tea Anyone?

Tea tea and more tea. I have always loved a relaxing cup of tea, especially after a long day. Just kick back pour myself a cup and just forget about the day and unwind. I even got my husband drinking more tea now and he is mostly a coffee drinker but he can acknowledge a good cup of brewed tea. Not too sweet but just lightly sweetened. I just recently bought some delicious teas from Etsy. I love drinking tea, especially around this time of the year. I just bought from a lovely Etsy shop called Tea For All Reasons.(love the name ) After I purchased from their shop, I then realized that they are about 20 minutes from me if that. LOL The box arrived in 1 day and nicely packaged and I couldn't wait to dig into my box. I can't believe I was excited over tea. I felt like a kid in a candy store.

I have to say that the tea was delicious. Smooth and very tasty. Didn't really need much sugar just a tad bit was fine but I sat back and enjoyed my tasty tea. I highly recommend trying som…

My Holiday Baking Adventure

Thanksgiving has now come and gone and the turkey is still sitting in my fridge waiting to be finished off. Since it was just the two of us this year, we got a somewhat small turkey but still too much for the two of us. But the turkey sandwiches for lunch have been out of this world and very tasty. I love turkey sandwiches. I even made one with lettuce and tomato. MMMM MMM good. '

Well this Thanksgiving I wanted to try my hand at baking. I consider myself a pretty good cook, but not very good at baking. Whenever I start to baking project, it never never turns out the recipe states. I either burn it, forget something in the recipe, or it just flat out did not come out right. Well I took the chance over the holiday to make two delicious recipes. Pumpkin Pie Spice Bread, and Zucchini Bread. A wonderful lady from Etsy gave me the Zucchini bread and the first batch I really burned and had to toss it out. The second time I made it on Thanksgiving day. Well it turned out super moist and d…

New Items for December

I finally got these items listed. I have been procrastinating lately. I am guessing its because of the holidays an not really been into listing much lately. But now that we got one of the holidays over and done with, I was able to get a couple of listing listed on Etsy and soon on the website.

New to my line of Back To Basic Editions is Orange Patchouli. What is Back to Basic Line? Just as it sounds, just basic soap, no fancy dancy colors or fruity girly fragrance but simple soap that everyone can use including men. I made this line of soaps so that men will enjoy using my soaps as well. If most men are like my husband, they will not like using soaps that look to girly with all those fancy swirls and designs and fruity scents. My husband won't use it. So I decided to just make a line of soaps that are just simple soaps. This orange patchouli would be great for the whole family to use.

This is one of our new soaps just recently listed. Pumpkin Pie Spice. I love the smell of pumpkin a…

The Holidays

Well Thanksgiving is soon approaching and it is the kick off to the Fall and Winter holidays. I am not really that excited about the holidays anymore. I guess its because it has just been my husband and I. My son has been with us but not in the past couple of holidays. I am so hoping that he can make it this year. I use to love this time of the year, but lately, I am just not feeling it. I was hoping that this year would be a nice one since we will have our first Thanksgiving and Christmas in our new home. We have been in our new home since June 08 and none of our family or friends have come by to visit. My husband keeps telling me to don't worry about it but it just bothers me. He is not much into his family or having friends and feels that his family have never really tried to keep in contact with him so he really doesn't care much.

We even invited people over for Thanksgiving like months ago and we have gotten "Oh we would love to come visit" but just in the past …

A Happy Video

I saw this video earlier today and I have to say that it just made me feel all warm and fuzzy all over. It is wonderful to see people around the world happy just to be with a total stranger dancing and having fun. I hope this video makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside too.

WOW I have been tagged by so many cool bloggers. I am so flattered. Ok here are the rules..

Yes it is my Anniversary. I have been in business now for 3 yrs now and I had opened up my website in November 2005. For some reason it seems longer. My Etsy anniversary was yesterday November 5th. I have been on Etsy for 2 yrs now and at times I wanted to give and close my shop this summer because sales was just so bad. I had to close for almost a month due to us moving into our home and when I reopened in July, sales have really slacked off. But my husband told me to hang in there, things will get better. And it is slowly improving. After thinking about it, I have worked too hard to give it up. I have a tendency to go into other bath and body shops and wonder why I am not selling as well as they are and comparing my sales and products with others and I need to stop doing it because it will just discourage me even more. I just focused on what I can do to improve my sales and my products and not so concerned with the other shops and what they are doing.

So to celebrate these events, T…

Election Day November 4th

This is a very important day for our country. It doesn't matter who you vote just vote. I am so excited to be voting today although it won't be til later today so hopefully the lines wont be too long and most of the voting was done early today. But even it if is long, I will wait til I get my chance to cast my vote. Lets just hope whatever the outcome is tonight that there will be no drama and that whatever happens, happens. May the best man win.

My New Jewelry Shop

I have been making these cute little Glass Pendants for awhile now and thought I would introduce them. I was a little nervous about opening a store because of the way my sales have been for the past month and I know a lot of that has to do with the way the economy has been lately. But since the Christmas holiday is fast approaching, It thought these would make great gifts for the holidays and at a reasonable price. I decided not to open my shop at Etsy and try another venue to sell them at so I went over to Stop on over to my new shop 4 Keep Sakes

My New Song Addiction

Ok so I never heard of Duffy but I heard of the song Mercy. I had no idea a British singer sang it. She has a wonderful throw back voice from the 60's. I wanted to share her recent video

Duffy - Stepping Stone

Lyrics for Stepping Stone

[Verse 1]
I rememeber way back way back when
I said I never wanna see your face again
Cause you were loving yes you were loving somebody else
And I knew oh yes I knew I couldnt control myself
And now they bring you back into my life again
And so I put on a face just like your friends
But I think you know oh yes you know what's going on
Cause the feelings in me oh yes in me are burning strong

But I will never be your stepping stone
Take it all or leave me alone
I will never be your stepping stone
I'm standing upright on my own

[Verse 2]
You used call me up from time to time
And it would be so hard for me not to cross the line
The words of love lay on my lips just like a curse
And I knew oh yes I knew they'd only make it worse

I have a 1.00 off sale going on in my Etsy shop all this week til Election day. Check my "This Weeks Sale" category for all the currently marked down items and save. Everything from soap, body washes, body sprays and much more. Get in on the savings while it last.

It is so important to get your vote out there. There are so many many countries that are being denied their rights to vote. We live in a free society and we have the freedoms to decide who our president will be. So if you are registered to vote, then please do so. It is so important. It doesn't matter who you are voting for. No one will ever know what lever or button you push behind those curtains on Election day. So put all your fears aside and all the things you have heard doing these last months of the election. Believe it or not every vote counts. Vote for the person you think will lead this country out of the problems we have not. It doesn't matter if it is Obama or McCain. Especially for us women and …

Whats New? I have three wonderful new soaps that have arrive at our Etsy store and our Website.

First on the list of new soaps

This is one of my Back to Basics soaps. New Coral Citrus Spice. It is made with Bergamot, Lime, and Patchouli. I wonderful combination of scents in one bar. It is one of the soaps in our line of basic soaps. No fancy colors or swirls just a basic bar loaded with wonderful oils and scents. I know times are tough for people these days with the cost of food, fuel and other major expenses it hard to keep up and I hear so many of my friends and people I know complaining all the time. People are losing hope these trying times but be thankful. There is ALWAYS someone else doing a lot worse than you are. This is for all the folks that are complaining about their day to day life.

I am Thankful:

My Pet Peeves

Ok we all know of something that others do that really annoys the hell out of ya. As I was driving today, I noticed again how slow someone in front of me was driving. I said to myself "why are they driving so slow". Well as soon as I decided that they were going to continue to drive so slow I decided to just pass. Well as I looked over guess what, Yup you guessed it, they were on the cell phone. You have no idea how much this annoys me. I have been in to many close calls while driving because people want to hold conversations on their cell phone while driving. I myself realize how difficult it is to drive and hold a conversation on the phone. It is distracting.

Ok now other pet peeve of mine is when I am in the movie theater. I can't stand when parents bring young kids (not age appropriate) to movies and they sit there and talk through the whole movie. My last vist to the movies, I had to endure kids behind me kicking my chair constantly, talking through the whole movie. …

Good Customer Service

Why is it so important to have good customer service? To have repeat customers and to have those current customers spread the word to others as to how well you handled their service. In the past weeks I have made some purchases on various selling places. Some were good and some were just not good at all. I am not suggesting in anyway that a seller or business owner kiss the customers butt and I don't believe that customers are always right. Well I have had a few orders that I am still waiting for with no contact at all from the person(s) I have bought from.

As a buyer, I should not be brushed aside because you are too busy to answer emails, think my question is frivolous and a waste of time, or you just don't want to answer. Every potential customer will evaluate you on your customers service and whether to spread the word around about your business.

What I am trying to get at is to give your customers more than what is expected and to handle each customer as if it was you maki…

Glass Pendants!

Ok so I have been making these lately. I just love making them. I started making these lovely glass pendants as gifts. I have given my mom and a few of my friends one. They loved them so much that they have told others and coworkers about them and I haven't stopped making them since. I currently have 10 custom orders for this pendants. My mom wore hers one day during while running her errands and a woman stopped her at the bus stop in Phila and asked where did she get that. She of course told her that her wonderful loving daughter made them. Well not in those exact words but she did give her my email address and she asked me about them Good ole mom. Always backing me up! At first I thought I wasn't that good at making them and so many others are making them that mine will not be any different then what is out there. But people do like them. Now I realize that I can make other things beside soap :-)

Here are some of the pendants I have on sale at Ebay. Shipping is FREE

Yes thats right, your photos on any photo websharing site is subject to be used without your permission. I have photobucket but my photos are not to be viewed by the public. This was aired this morning on Good Morning America where peoples personal and professional photos have been used to ad campaigns and other commercial advertisements without your permission. I have a flicker account but I chose not to use it for that same reason. I don't want my personal or professional photos exposed so everyone can view them and possibly take and use and never know it. A woman that was on Good Morning America saw a photo of her dog in the outfit she had posted on her flickr account in a sports magazine. It was obvious that the picture was edit to fit in the ad photo. This was so shocking to see. Not to mention a girl had posted a photo of herself with a friend on her flickr account and someone (if I am not mistaken Virgin Mobile) used that photo of her and edited her friend out of the photo …

The Best Poem Ever!

I love this poem. It speaks volumes. This is by Maya Angelou

enough money within HER control to move out
and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to...

something perfect to wear if the employer,
or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE a youth she's content to leave behind....

a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age....

a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra... LOL

one friend who always makes her laugh.. and one who lets her cry...

a goo d piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...

eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems,
and a recipe for a meal,
that will make her guests feel honored...

a feeling of control over her destiny..

More Whipped Soap

Yes it is true! I have another Whipped Soap to add to our growing inventory. I have sold out so many of my other soaps during my soap sale that I am playing catch up. Well I have about 3 batches currently curing at the moment. When I started out making soap I wanted my soaps to be different and unique. I think I have pretty much achieved that I think. Anyway in the past month, my soaps have gotten the much needed exposure it deserves. By running my super sale during the month of August and September, I was able to give my customers to buy my soaps at a really low price and most of the customers were so please to have at least tried my soaps. I have had rave reviews about them and they were so satisfied to have taken advantage of the sale. So I have converted more people in to using more handmade soaps. I think this is a good thing. So I am very pleased about that.

Well next to be added to the Whipped Soap family is my Whipped Mango Sage Soap. Smells heavenly. Someone told me that it l…

New Whipped Soaps Are Finally Here!

Well you don't have to wait much longer. I finally have the ready.

So what is up first. Our Whipped Monkey Farts soap. Everyone has been asking me to make another batch of this wonderful soap and it is now ready. I have been waiting weeks for this soap to cure as this soap take a bit longer to cure as it does not heat up like the traditional cold process soap, so the curing time takes much longer. There is a little more involved in making this soap but I am so glad it is finally ready. I used a bar this morning and oh my the lather is wonderful.

Next up is our new Whipped Ultra Violet. This is scented with a floral scent of violets. Very nice scent that I know you will just absolutely can't stop sniffing. This is made the same way as our Monkey Farts. These are now available at our Etsy shop. We will have both of these wonderful soaps up on our website soon as well. Next up on the list is our Mango Sage Tea Whipped Soap. OH my this is wonderful too.

What will we have coming lat…

Things That Make You Go hmmmm?

Oh so sorry I accidently deleted the post. (lowers her head) So I decided to just start another post about Things that make you go hmmm? Ok first

Why are hamburgers called hamburger when they are made out of Beef? hmmm?

Who do doctors go to when they are sick? Do they have their own doctors? Same for dentists?

Why are there interstates in Hawaii?

If 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why are there locks on the doors?

Why do they put Braille dots on the keypad of the drive-up ATM? hmmmm dumb huh

You know that little indestructible black box that is used on planes -- why can't they make the whole plane out of the same substance? hmmmm

Ok I am so guilty of doing this Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn the radio down?

People Do Not get sick from cold weather; it's from being indoors a lot more.

Why does your GYN leave the room when you get undressed?

Remembering 9/11

What does this day mean to you? No I haven't had a family or a friend lost during this day. No I haven't personally been affected by it. But for those families that have lost love ones and for those that have lost friends, this is the day to remember them. I remember this day like it just happened yesterday. I live near DC and near Dulles Airport and when I hear the planes descending to Dulles Airport I can hear them over my home. I have only lived in this area for a couple of months prior to September 11th. Yes it does make me nervous especially since one of the planes took off from Dulles Airport to hit the Pentagon. So it is a constant reminder. I wasn't much of a flyer before 9/11 actually I haven't flown at all before then. But I finally was able to take a trip to Vegas a couple of times after 9/11 and I must say I was very very nervous about flying. But I got over it eventually.

I have to say that this day will always be a reminder in many of our hearts and mind…

All Ready To Make Soap But....

Uh huh? All ready to start making a batch a soap when I realize, I have no LYE! Thats right folks, can't make any soap without lye. Being that I am in a new home I keep all my oils in my supply closet and this resulted in me running up 2 flights of stairs. I have decided to keep all my oils in my kitchen so I don't have to lug all those huge jugs and canisters down the stairs. I kept forgetting things like my apron, gloves and goggles along with the scale. So up the stairs I go to retrieve those items that I really need.

As you can see in the photo, I was all set up to make some soap last night and realize there was hardly any lye left. Fortunate for me, I don't have to purchase my lye online. I can get it at Loews for 7.66 for a 24 oz bottle of 100% caustic soda. So now I had to wait. Today I was able to get a batch of my Whipped Monkey Farts Soap done. It should be ready in about 3-4 weeks. Sometime early in Oct.

Update:This is how it looks the day after when it is ready…

Shape of My Heart

Ok for all the oldies out there who would remember this song. I just saw The Professional and love this song that plays at the end of the movie.

This is one of my all time favorites from Sting. It's so awesome! I kept rewinding the DVR back just so the song would start again. LOL. I just wanted to share this song for those who have not heard it and for those that have heard it remember how great it is. Give it a second to start.

Shape of My Heart by Sting '94

Currently on the Curing Rack

Well I managed to get one batch of my Whipped Soap done. Have you tried Whipped Soap before? Well here is a sneek peek at one of my finished batches for September. This will not be ready til around the end of this month

This is Mango Sage Tea. This is made with the combination of a unique combination of refreshing leaves of rubbed sage, juicy mango, papaya, and strawberries, with a wonderful base note of freshed brewed white tea leaves. Smells awesome. Sorry for the bad photo, this is not the best lighting at the time. As you can see I only make very small batches as I wish my soap just flew off the shelves like many other soapers but in time they will. I know they are great and others will soon realize this too. This bar will be approx 5.5 oz of whipped soap. It is a very large bar. But as it continues to cure, it will feel much lighter due to the whipping that was done to make the soap. I have to say that it took me quite some time last Sunday to make this soap. I have had problems …

800th Sale at Etsy!!!

Oh my how it has taken so long to reach this milestone. All summer it has been so so slow. I am so very happy to have finally reached this point in my shop. I feel like I fell behind and never was able to recover and get back up again. But there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

So I want to offer a FREE BAR OF SOAP OF YOUR CHOICE FOR THE 800TH CUSTOMER AT MY ETSY SHOP. Thats right you heard me correctly. This has been a very long and slow summer for me for sales and now that I have finally reached my 800th sale I want to give something back. The economy has been really hard on a lot of people and the recent gas hike has made it even worse. So many foreclosures and people losing their jobs, it has been so tough. But there is always a brighter side of things. I use to always say, "things may seem bleak at the moment but the only way is up again". Sometimes you can't see it at the time when things are bad but there is only way from the bottom and that is up. What…

One of Etsy's Great Shops

This is one of my favorite shops on Etsy. Why you say? Well because CRAFTYSTEPH has awesome incense. I have bought from her shop many many times and have never been disappointed. When I get my order it is well packaged and she also sends me other scent samples to try which got me coming back from more. Not only does she make lovely incense but other great gifts too.

Take a peek at some of her items in her shop.

These lovely-scented incense sticks are made to order, fresh just for you - so you know they haven't been sitting on a shelf somewhere!!

I hand dip all incense sticks myself, beginning with the high-quality charcoal incense sticks which burn cleaner than "regular" incense sticks (the punk type), which burn with a more "woodsy" smell. Because we use charcoal, all you get is pure fragrance!

I then soak the incense sticks for 24 hours in an aromatherapy blend of highly-scented oils. Once comp…

Fragrance Oils VS Essential Oils

Some of my friends have been discussing to me what the difference is between fragrance oils and essentials and which are better. Both have some pros and cons but it is about personal choices. Here is some interesting things about Essential oils and Fragrance oils. You be the judge and to me its about personal choice.

Ok so what is a fragrance oil? images by

A fragrance oil is a mix of various chemical components, some natural (from plants or even animals), and some synthetic. They are carefully formulated and/or blended to the exact specifications of a perfumer whose goal is to design a scent. Sometimes they are formulated to smell like something occurring in nature (e.g. lavender, pine, bluebonnets, strawberries), or sometimes they are formulated to smell like an entirely new creation or concept (e.g. spring rain, love spell, winter wonderland.)

There are literally thousands of various compounds that each have their own scent…that blended together create a fragranc…

Do You Remember Me?

This was so touching and moving, I had to put this up. I so support our troops in Iraqi. Yes I remember you and you are not forgotten.

My husband was in the Air Force along with many of my family members that have served in Korea, Vietnam, some during Desert Storm. I so support our troops. Do you support our troops? If so, leave a comment and let me know if you watched the video.

Some Helpful tips

Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little 'stringy things' off of it. That's how the primates do it. Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking. Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking. To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.
